An ethnic nose is characteristically defined for the noses that are wide with a low root, low nasal bridge and large nostrils. In these patients, bone and cartilages are structurally short, weak and inadequate whereas the skin tissue is very thick.

In this kind of noses, it is not a correct approach to try to directly reduce the nose to a smaller one, but instead the approach should be to strengthen the bone and cartilage structures. For this, the patient’s own septum will not be enough since it will also be weak, and an additional graft from the ribs will be taken for reconstruction process. The purpose is to lift the nasal roof to make the skin of the nose easier to give shape.
